Publisher: Hand Drawing. Only one existing copy. (Hanshita-e)

Condition: Some toning and foxing. Vertical and horizontal center creases now flattened. Some binding holes in the upper section of the drawing. Some molding and thinning in the cloud area. The drawing is glued to its upper corners to a white board. Fair overall condition.

Notes: This unique preparatory drawing was used most likely for a design for a painting / scroll.

We were able to retrieve from a private collection about 20 rare original work from Katsushika Hokusai, including 5 preparatory drawings. This is one of them. (The name of the collection is to remain anonymous as per the family's request.)

This hand drawing is unsigned but attributed to Hokusai, from the Manji Period. It is now referenced in the online Catalogue Raisonne among many other hand drawings, as visible HERE
