Notes: Hoeido Tokaido is the first and most prestigious series of the 53 Tokaido Series, and the most sought after. This print is noted by the Strange catalog as the first state, with two coolies and two travelers on the near bank. The distant mountain to right conical with a notch on its right side.
After multiple prints and reprints, the wooden blocks were damaged and recarved during the lifetime of Hiroshige. Newer blocks created these different states.
