Notes: The cover of the booklet has a date of Tenmei 8, (1788), and a few drawings are signed by Toyota Hokkei, known during this period under the name of Shunyosai.
It is a Kano study, hand made. Toyota Hokkei's 1st known published work was in 1800, but this is a student booklet. Hokusai and Hokkei both were studying with Kanō Yosen'in Korenobu in the late 1780's, early 1790's.
This booklet is unique. Amazingly, between the sheets of this opus, we also have found a loose hand drawing signed Utamaro that we sold separately.
Despite the poor condition of this booklet, this is a genuine piece of Japanese history and a very unique collector for whoever is found of Toyota Hokkei.
It contains a total of 58 pages, 45 with images.
Pictures: Pictures are taken outdoor, in the shade, to reflect true colors, without any enhancements of any kind. The last picture is taken indoor, with a light behind the print, to reveal the exact paper grain, holes if any, or other possible flaws.
All our prints are guaranteed Authentic and Originals
